The KALAMA FIRE continues to burn southeast of Kalama Horse Camp on the south side of Mount St. Helens.

The fire ignited on August 31, 2022, around 2000 hours PT.

This is on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

The cause is unknown and under investigation.

The IC is Loretta Duke, USFS/Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

About 350 acres have been burned but there is a 5% containment status reached.

According to Fire Officials, they state the next planned actions include Firefighters preparing control lines in a more favorable terrain where they can be successful.”

Fire behavior has been smoldering and creeping with short crown runs.

There is still about 132 total personnel assigned with three crews, three engines, and two copters.

The current CTD has reached $3 Million Dollars.
