PIERCE COUNTY, WASHINGTON STATE — Firefighters from the Tacoma Fire Department were dispatched to the 3200 block of S. Mason Street to a commercial structure fire located in an apartment complex.
Fire resources were greeted by smoke and flames which were visible on the second and third-floor decks of one of the buildings with fire extending into the attic.
Due to quick egress on the fire, crews put it out within several minutes after first arriving on the scene.
As of 2114 hours PT, firefighters were checking for further extensions and hot spots.
The Tacoma Fire Buff Battalion, their firefighter rehab unit is also on the scene supporting firefighters with rehydration and replenishing snacks, as other support services.
These support services are key in helping firefighters return back to the same physical condition as they were prior to responding to this energy exertion incident. Those who are in this unit are 100% volunteers and respond 24/7/365 to support the City of Tacoma’s elite firefighters.
At this time, a preliminary cause has not been determined as of yet.
It is unknown how many units have been damaged or destroyed by fire and/or water or if there are any displaced residents.
Check back for further updates, as this is a developing story.
