SIT REP 5: August 16, 2023, Wednesday, 2150 PT

The SOURDOUGH FIRE is located north of Diablo Lake, along the Sourdough Ridge between Sourdough and Bucket Creek just outside of Newhalem (Whatcom County), Washington State.
The fire started on 7/29/2023 at 0911 hours from lightning.
CLOSED. SR20 is still closed due to falling rocks onto the Hwy below, causing dangerous conditions for firefighters and therefore WSDOT has closed the roadway to protect drivers.
It has burned about 2,953 acres of timber, brush, and closed timber litter and has an 11% containment status.
Active fire behavior with uphill runs and torching.
Structures and infrastructure are threatened.
Command is under the leadership of Al Lawson and Deputy Incident Commander, Nathan Rabe. The Administrative Unit is Ross Lake National Rec Area based out of Rockport, Washington State.
