Burnout operations on August 12, 2023.

Incident Summary

The SOURDOUGH FIRE is still burning in the North Cascade National Park near Newhalem (Whatcom) Washington State, which started on July 29, 2023, from lightning. It is burning Diablo in the Ross Lake National Rec Area.

Current Status

Currently, the fire behavior has been observed as active with uphill runs, wind-driven runs, and torching, which is said to still be threatening the community of Diablo and its energy infrastructure threatened.

It has burned 5,997 acres of timber, brush, and closed timber litter and crews have reached a 12% containment status.

Resources

There is a total of 349 personnel along with four hand crews, 15 engines, five water tenders, and seven copters.

The fire is under the command of NW Team 8, A type 2 IMT as of this morning.
