SUTHERLIN, OREGON — The Typee Ridge Complex has been listed as being started on August 24, 2023, by an undetermined cause. However, some say that lightning storms passed over the area. There are 19 wildfires in this complex. Just now the Governor of Oregon has approved a conflagration for this fire. About 1,000 of timber has been burned. There is a 0% containment status listed. The Lead Fire Agency is the Oregon Department of Forestry.

NW Coordination Center: “Two new large fires and one complex of fires broke out yesterday in Oregon. These included the Camp Creek Fire, 10 miles NE of Sandy, the Chilcoot Fire, 20 miles E. of Glide, and the Tyee Ridge Complex, W. of Sutherlin. The Tyee Ridge complex consists of 19 fires of mixed ownership. The largest of which are the Cougar Creek and Rattlesnake fires that burned together for more than 400 acres.”

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek has invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for the Tyee Ridge Complex to allow OSFM to mobilize structural firefighting resources to protect life and property on two of the 19 fires that comprise the Tyee Ridge Complex. The two fires are estimated at 1,000 acres. Level 3 evacuation orders are in place through the Umpqua County Sheriff’s Office for homes near the Cougar Creek and Rattlesnake Ridge fires. OSFM will take unified command with the Oregon Department of Forestry at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.
