Wednesday Fire Update 1: August 30, 2023, 2130 PDT

The PETES LAKE FIRE is located 25 miles west of Bend and 25 miles northwest of Sun River, Oregon which was sparked by lightning on August 25, 2023.

The wildfire has burned about 487 total acres of timber. It has a containment status of two percent with fire behavior still being observed as moderate.

Closures: On August 28, the Willamette and Deschutes National Forests implemented a forest closure order for the Petes Lake Fire burning within the Mink Lake Basin in the Three Sisters Wilderness. The order and map can be found here: http://fs.usda.gov/detail/deschutes/news-events/….

Evacuations: Orders issued Sunday by the Deschutes County Sheriff remain in place: https://www.deschutes.org/sheriff/page/emergency-information.

Level 3 (Go Now) Evacuation notice is issued for all areas west of the Cascade Lakes Hwy from the Lucky Lake Trailhead north to the Mirror Lake Trail.

Level 1 (Be Ready) Pre-Evacuation notice is issued for areas around Elk Lake down to Little Lava Lake. This means “Be Ready” for potential evacuation. Be aware of the danger in the area.

Level 2 – (Be Set) to evacuate at a moment’s notice. There are no level 2 evacuations currently.

Trail and area closures are in effect.

There are 200 total personnel along with four hand crews, one water tender, and four helicopters.

Command was transferred to the Northwest Team 10 (Lawson), a Type 2 IMT.
