SIT REP 1: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2023, 1850 PDT

A fast-moving wildfire named the BENSEL FIRE is burning near the Hermiston Raceway on U.S. 395 in Umatilla County, Oregon, broke out several hours ago as reported by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office. (Photo Credit)

Incident Cooperators include The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, and Umatilla County Fire District 1.

Around 1600 hours, it was reported that the fire behavior had become extreme with it being wind-driven and burning in heavy fire fuels under some powerlines after it had reached Hwy 730 at 1530 hours.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office had mobilized fire bosses and a single helicopter to help stop the forward progression of the fire.

They are going to further monitor the progress to see if there are additional resources and/or support needed to help with the fire suppression and containment efforts.

EVACUATIONS ARE IN EFFECT

Level 3 – GO NOW!

  • North of Bensel and Progress Roads across from Hwy 730 to the River.
  • East of Bud Draper Road, all the way to and including Salmon Point.
  • Salmon Point.
  • Bowdin Lane between Sagebrush Road and Bensel Roads, including Alpine.
  • Beach Access Road.

Level 2 – GET SET.

  • Hat Rock Community and Yacht Club.
