West Thurston Fire was notified of a fire at the C4300 line of Capitol Forest at 2130 hours last night. As they arrived on the scene as the local fire agency, they were greeted by a fast-moving wildfire located southeast of Capitol Peak and visible from most areas of their Fire District.

The Incident # is WASPS-308.

At this time, the fire has burned about 50 acres of shrubs, timber, timber understory, and slash. There is an unknown containment status. A Type 3 IMT is on order.

There are no threats to structures.

Resources include the following: BASH DUPREY E8201 E8207 H346WN H8286 MEYER PRICE RIEPE and WILLIAMS, three aircraft, and firefighters from West Thurston Fire, McLake Black Lake Fire Department, and WA DNR.

Fire Officials are asking the public and looky-loos to avoid the area altogether as heavy traffic is starting to hamper fire suppression efforts. Water tenders and brush trucks have to travel up and down logging roads to bring in water. Traffic is unsafe for cars and fire apparatus to be on these narrow logging roads which can put vehicles in precarious positions and create danger for all drivers and passengers.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
