The Little Yamsay Fire ignited from lightning, which was detected on April 20, 2024. It is now being managed as a natural cover fire that is burning through timber, light slash, and brush.
The fireline is located about 15 miles southeast of Chumult near Klamath Marsh in the State of Oregon.
Incident Cooperators include USFS – Fremont-Winema National Forest, South Central OR Fire Management Partnership – SCOFMP, and the Lakeview Hotshots, which includes a total of 106 fire personnel assigned to this incident.

On May 4th, a rotten tree fell onto a fire service vehicle which was leaving an early morning debriefing area near Klamath Marsh to the fire line. The large tree shattered the front windshield and caused extensive damage.
Four firefighters were inside the vehicle when the incident occurred. They were not injured but were shaken.

As of today, the fire has burned through 3,278 acres and has a 30% containment status. It has a moderate fire behavior with flanking, backing, and isolated torching.
There are three crews, five engines, three heavy equipment, and three water tenders.
There are no evacuations or closures at this time.
The total cost-to-date for fire suppression and containment expenses have reached 1.9 Million Dollars.
