Firefighters with the DC Fire and EMS Department (DCFD) responded to a residential structure fire located on the 5th floor in the 400 block of M Street SW in DC.

We are covering this fire for its uniqueness as related to lithium-ion batteries being involved.

Today, the fire involved a lithium-ion battery-powered mobile device.

Firefighters knocked down the fire quickly and vent the building to push the smoke out of floors 5 and 6. The HAZMAT had arrived on the scene and removed the device that ignited the fire.

The FIU and air unit were requested to be dispatched to the scene.
