Vanowen Street Fire Command

LOS ANGELES COUNTY — LAFD firefighters, command staff, and equipment were dispatched to a structure fire on Sunday, October 20, 2024, located in the 11000 block of W. Vanowen Street in North Hollywood, California.

Firefighters were met by a very large exterior fire which was adjacent to the RR tracks as well as a commercial building with placards. This generally means that this indicates potential HAZMAT content, which prompted the HAZMAT highly specialized unit to be dispatched to the incident.

Units consist of FS 89; Batt 14; Valley Bureau; Council District 2; BC10 BC12 BC14 BC5 CM40 CM42 E102 E227 E260 E278 E289 E298 E60 E77 E86 E87 E88 E89 EM14 EM17 HR3 RA86 RA889 RA89 SQ87 T27 T60 T78 T89 T98 UR27 UR88; CH9; 17 and 18.

Two additional Task Forces were requested.

There were no nearby exposure buildings threatened.

The intense fire was knocked down within 56 minutes on the incident timer with over 50 firefighters called to the fire ground to help douse the flames and smoke.

No injuries were reported.

Due to the extent of this fire, firefighters are tasked with an extended overhaul operation.
