EAST LYNN, MA — Firefighters with the Lynn Fire Department and other mutual aid resources are battling a five-alarm fire in Wards 3 & 4, with fire on Estes, Windemere, and Chestnut Streets.

This is City Box 423 (Fire Building) located at 60 Estes Street, which has extended to the Charlie exposure building at 10 Chestnut Street. Multiple buildings were said to have been touched by fire with collapse.

Initial reports by first due units, heavy fire throughout a three-story wood-frame structure with extension to other buildings with multiple aid units arriving on the scene and helping evacuate residents.

Two buildings were reported as a church and a multiple-unit residential building.

The Fire Department is releasing small bits of information to the public.

According to Coco Alinsug, City Councilor for Ward 3 – Lynn, “I was there at the (fire) because some of our Ward 3 residents have been messaging me. Just FYI, some of you will have no power tonight, especially on the corner of Chestnut and Lewis.

The timeline of the incident:

2041 EST (1741 PT) | Smoke showing from floor 2 of a 3-story multiple-family residential building.

2046 EST | 2-alarm struck. Smoke showing from a large 2.5 wood multip-story family structure.

2056 EST | 4-alarm struck. Heavy fire from a large 2.5-story church; all exposure buildings were evacuated.

The City of Lynn Fire Department is located in Lynn, Massachusetts, and is operated by the City with a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Officers (Day Division- Communications (LT), EMS (Capt), Arson (Capt), Fire Prevention (Lt.), Division 5 Chief (District Chief) and Training Division (Capt). Their Fire Department also has an Emergency Operations Center (Emergency Management Director).

According to sources, they have staffing of 140-plus firefighters and 60 Officers who staff six (6) Fire Stations along with six (6) engines, three (3) Ladders, and one (1) ALS ambulance unit. Additionally, they have a Fire Alarm Office that dispatches for the Lynn and Swampscott Fire Department.

A MBTA bus with hot coffee and blankets is available on the bus which is parked on the Lewis Street side for those wishing to use them and stay warm. Due to lots of water on many of the side streets in light of the cold weather, it will be very slippery tomorrow morning and please stay safe.”

Firefighters will remain on the scene throughout the early morning hours in hopes of putting out the fire and then starting their fire investigation.

It is unknown if there are any injuries to civilians and/or firefighters at the time of this post.
