PARIS, FRANCE

Firefighters with the Pompiers of Paris (@PompiersParis) were dispatched to a multiple-alarm fire, as we would call it in the United States, which the French described as a “violent fire” at the Marché des Enfants-Rouges.

This occurred on Monday, October 12, 2026, around 0415 hours (Paris time), which was around 1915 hours PT on Sunday here on West Coast time (Washington State).

This marketplace is in the 3rd arrondissement and is one of the oldest (opened in 1615) covered food markets in the French capital. This is a very popular destination for locals and travelers alike.

Firefighters eventually gained control of the structure fire, but they couldn’t stop it from spreading to other parts of the building. It is considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is unknown and currently under investigation.

This is definitely a loss to the City’s capital, its people, and the vendors as a whole.
