Snohomish County Fire District #4 is currently seeking candidates for Firefighter/Paramedic. All test results must be submitted by end of business day April 6, 2012. Candidates need both FireTEAM Testing and CPAT to proceed. Candidates will be invited to fill out the District application after the closing date. Salary Information:
2012 Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic: $5209.76 to $6913.31

Area Information:
SNOHOMISH FIRE & RESCUE (Snohomish County Fire District #4) is a suburban/rural fire department located East of the City of Everett in the central Snohomish county region. Encompassing approximately 60 square miles and a population of around 26,000 residents, the area of coverage for fire/rescue/emergency medical service is mostly a rural bedroom community with the City of Snohomish located in the middle of the fire district. Our goal is to treat everyone with a neighborly attitude one would find within a small community. Snohomish is located a hour away form the City of Seattle and the Cascade mountains giving residents the opportunity to enjoy the year-round entertainment activities.

Job Requirements
Must have AT LEAST 24 months of pre-hospital paramedic EXPERIENCE as a fulltime employed paramedic as of January 31st 2012. (Time spent for paramedic school will not be considered.) Must have sufficient work experience to be able to work unsupervised and able to become Snohomish County certified.
Fire service experience is NOT required to apply. Successful candidates will attend the Washington State Fire Recruit Academy. (Academy attendance may be waived with proof of completion of an accredited state fire academy with a minimum of 360 hours of documented Fire Fighter I training).

Diligently and consistently support the Mission of the District.
Under extremely stressful conditions involving personal danger, trauma, suffering and tragedy, responds to emergency and non-emergency fire, rescue and emergency medical incidents in specialized District apparatus as Fire Fighter/Paramedic or apparatus operator — operating specialized rescue, emergency medical, and/or fire extinguishing equipment to mitigate the emergency or request for service.
Completes and maintains accurate reports commensurate with all assigned duties and responsibilities.
Participates in life safety, accident and fire prevention educational programs.
Participates in training activities and attends classes relative to and commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of a Fire Fighter/Paramedic.
Regularly performs general maintenance work to District facilities, grounds, apparatus and equipment — testing, cleaning, and repairing as needed to assure that apparatus, equipment, facilities, and grounds are fully operational for immediate response and always highly presentable to the public.
Driving Disqualifier
Traffic crimes in last 3 years (DWI, Suspended, Reckless, etc.)
Suspension of driver’s license within past five years
Two or more moving violations in past five years
Two or more at-fault accidents in past five years
Unable to obtain individual auto liability insurance
Drug Use Disqualifier
Illegal drug substance usage or exposure within past five years
Illegal use of illegal drugs in last five years
Illegal use of any controlled substance while employed in criminal justice capacity
Hallucinogen use within past five years; no more than one total
Illegal use of one or more different controlled substances
Other drug use outside these standards will be considered on a case by case basis
No illegal sale of ANY drug including marijuana
Illegal use of dangerous drugs or narcotics other than marijuana for any purpose more than one time in lifetime and no use within the past five years
Pattern of illegal use of prescription medications
Criminal Activity Disqualifier
Any adult felony conviction
Any misdemeanor or felony conviction while employed in a criminal justice capacity
Adult misdemeanor convictions will be carefully reviewed
Juvenile felony convictions will be carefully reviewed
Convicted of any crime under domestic violence statute
Unlawful sexual misconduct
Any convictions or arrests for crimes that would erode public trust.
Must not have any felony convictions within the past ten (10) years.

Lied during any stage of a hiring process

Attendance.

Ensure safekeeping and proper care of all fire department property.
In the absence of superior officers must be able to carry out duties with good judgement.
Follows established schedules and routines in performing a variety of general duties and maintenance activities at District stations.
Accurately and appropriately documents activities using department forms, data processing equipment and procedures in accordance with District policy.
As assigned, performs routine maintenance, minor repairs, conducts or assists in the testing of apparatus and equipment, troubleshooting, replacing, and repairing damaged or malfunctioning parts or reports the need for more extensive repairs.
Performs general building and grounds maintenance work in the upkeep of department property and buildings; washes, cleans, polishes, tests, maintains, and makes minor repairs to apparatus and equipment or reports the need for more extensive maintenance and repair.
Respond to fire emergencies, operate fire fighting equipment, lay and connect hose lines, maneuver nozzles and direct fire streams, raise and climb ladders, use fire extinguishers and all types of fire fighting hand tools.
Respond to medical emergencies, other types of patient care requests, transports patients to medical care facilities or transfers them to alternative transport care as appropriate to the situation.
Removes or assists in removing victims from accidents or other life-threatening situations, and follows established patient care protocols in examining victims to determine nature and extent of injuries or illness and type of emergency medical treatment required.
v Operates all District apparatus in accordance with policy.
Operates a variety of specialized fire fighting and related emergency tools and equipment to create openings in buildings for ventilation and entrance, suppress fires, assist and treat victims.
Operates in hazardous atmospheres wearing self-contained breathing apparatus.
Ventilates burning buildings by opening windows and skylights or by cutting holes in roofs, walls and floors.
Coordinate and/or operate as part of an interior fire attack-line team.
Complete overhaul operations with the goal of ensuring total fire extinguishment.
Perform salvage operations which include placing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris.
Understands and applies appropriate communication p6rotocols and demonstrates ability to operate radios and follow policy / procedure.
Protects evidence of fire origin and cause.
Operates a variety of computerized equipment including but not limited to the following, pumps, word processing, and defibrillators.
Assists special operations teams as assigned.
Fire Prevention:
As assigned, inspects and tests hydrants, maintains hydrant records, and performs minor maintenance to hydrants.
As assigned, makes presentations to community, station visitors and school groups on fire and emergency medical safety, and performs other community relations services including station tours.
Must maintain a general knowledge and understanding of fire prevention and safety codes and regulations as appropriate.
As assigned, inspects buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention codes and maintains fire prevention records.
As assigned, performs pre-fire planning of major facilities within the District’s response area.
Training:
Must be able to train in and demonstrate proficiencies in all functions and duties as assigned.
Maintains fire suppression skills and EMT certification through drills, continuing education, and re-certification testing.
Assists with the organization and planning of drills, and when assigned, presents training in relation to all job functions.
Attends training courses, read and study assigned materials.
