The Diamond Butte Fire started by numerous lightening strikes on Sunday, August 19, on the Yakama Nation Reservation. The fire is burning in heavy timber (including significant dead and down trees) in steep, remote terrain. Washington Interagency Incident Management Team #1 assumed control of the fire at 6 AM today and is assessing the situation and developing a plan today.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has recreation and road closures in the Ahtanum State Forest. Please see closures for details.
