We hear of the many stories of how FIRE is called to respond to an aid call or that there is a house fire in progress.  What lies at the other end is what is so disturbing to me.  So many incidents where firefighters or EMS have been assaulted in their work environment and not having the means to protect themselves more readily is a hot topic.

Some have gone as far as preparing their EMS personnel with the approval of carrying weapons.  I can understand if you are going into a “hot” zone and it becomes dangerous for you and the patient or maybe if the patient is the one that is assaulting you.  I firmly believe protecting is your best weapon.

We created a Facebook page called, “Saving a Firefighter EMS Today Yearround – SAFETY Matters”.  It is dedicated to each and every one of you in the hopes that government and those who make important decisions every day to protect you from being assaulted.  It is a hope for Zero Tolerance.  Though we know that may never happen, it is a goal to work towards to better arm yourselves against the men and women you work to treat and save.

Some of you say it is a normal occurrence and you are just use to it.  I don’t think anyone should get use to be assaulted at work or ever.  If this happens, please report it.  Every person whom commits this crime, should take responsibility for their own actions.  Period.

Thank you for what you do every day by placing your lives on the line unconditionally.  You are Heroes in what you do.  Keep up the great work and be safe out there, my friends…..
