| The Research Assistant will assist in the development and implementation of research and quality improvement projects to evaluate pre-hospital emergency care as part of the Medical Quality Improvement (QI) Section. This position will work closely with other QI team members in developing tools for gathering, compiling, and entering data; analyzing data; managing databases; and conducting quality assurance activities.
In addition, this position will work with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies to coordinate QI activities; write narrative, analytical, and statistical reports; and communicate progress of projects while ensuring activities of data collection and management comply with strict policies for protected health information.
This position will be the database manager for the pre-hospital ST-elevation myocardial infarction database and pre-hospital stroke database.

Work Location: Downtown Seattle, Chinook Building, 401 5th Avenue, Suite 1200, Seattle, WA 98104, and other Public Health locations as needed.
Work Schedule: The normal work week is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. This position is subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.

| Examples of Duties: |
- Assist the Program Medical Director in the design of research and evaluation studies including questionnaire design and statistical analysis approach.
- Perform statistical data queries for preliminary analysis, pilot projects, specific requests, and EMS services. Assist in developing, modifying, and managing databases; create reports.
- Develop and implement a system for providing feedback information (project performance, project updates and successes).
- Write narrative, analytical, and statistical reports; conduct research; create statistical reports and correspondence, and draft research reports.
- Collect, code, prepare, enter, compile and analyze data via interviews, assessments, observations or completed forms; update and maintain appropriate databases, records, files, memoranda and specifications. Develop data reporting templates utilizing SPSS data collection software and Microsoft Access.
- May occasionally travel to King County hospitals, fire departments, dispatch centers, and paramedic programs in King County to abstract data for QA studies;
- Coordinate Human Subject application submission to University of Washington.
- Submit appropriate forms to Public Health Research and Administrative Review Committee (RARC) and update as necessary.

| Qualifications: |
- Considerable knowledge of statistical and data analysis, survey research design, data collection and management, computerized database systems, software programs used to download electronic information, quality assurance measures, medical terminology, public health and/or medical research, and requirements and safeguards for protecting private health information.
- Demonstrated ability in database development and management; data collection, analysis, and verification.
- Demonstrated ability to work with complex data sets; perform data queries; collect, code, enter, compile, and analyze data; and create reports and summaries.
- Demonstrated ability to summarize and present data through clear graphs, charts, and other formats.
- Demonstrated experience preparing manuscripts and reports for publication.
- Demonstrated experience in Human Subject approved research studies, Human
- Subject application process, Regulatory Review process, or Internal Review Boards.
- Demonstrated ability in the following areas: communicate effectively orally and in writing; work with multidisciplinary teams; interact with others in the healthcare, scientific, and EMS community; establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain the privacy and security of sensitive and confidential information in all formats including verbal, written and electronic; and adhere to policies and procedures related to local, state, and federal privacy requirements.
- Washington State Driver’s License or the ability to travel in a timely manner to police stations, fire stations, dispatch centers, and paramedic programs throughout King County which may have limited or no public transportation services.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to independently move projects from inception to completion.
- Problem solving skills demonstrated by the ability to suggest different ways of analyzing data.
- Demonstrated ability to explore options for new research projects.
