The Moon Complex consists of seven fires in the Tok area, including:

#401 Moon Lake, #414 Tetlin Junction Ridge, #300 Dennison Fork, #357 Billy Creek, #386 Ladue Fork, #448 South Junction Ladue, #449 Big Timber Creek.

The Alaska Type 2 Incident Management Team, Incident Commander Rob Allen, will take command of the fire complex on June 29, 2013.

Several Lightning-Caused Fires Burning in The Tok Area

(Tok, Alaska) – Seven lightning-caused fires are currently active in the Moon Complex. Two are in full protection areas and five are in limited suppression areas. The Alaska type 2 Incident Management Team will arrive today to assume the management of the complex of fires in the Tok area. The incident command post will be located at the Tok School. Some of the fires include:

Moon Lake Fire – Started on June 25 and has burned approximately 6,298 acres. It is located approximately 24 miles west of Tok. Fire managers continue to monitor this fire closely and are preparing to take action if resources are threatened.

Tetlin Jct. Ridge Fire – Started on June 26 and has burned approximately 620 acres. It is located approximately 18 miles east of Tok. It is a half-mile from the Alaska Highway. Currently, no improvements are threatened by the fire.

Billy Creek Fire – Started on June 22 and has burned nearly 8,500 acres. It is located northeast of Dot Lake approximately 12 miles. Currently, no improvements are threatened by the fire.

Ladue Fork – Started on June 25 and has burned nearly 5,000 acres. It is located approximately 42 miles due east of Tok in the 40-mile country.

Big Timber Started on June 27 and has burned nearly 300 acres. It is located approximately 30 miles northeast of the Tetlin Junction.

Dennison Fork- Started on June 20 and has grown to nearly 350 acres. It is located approximately 6 miles south of Chicken.

Over the past several days, Tok Area Forestry has responded to multiple fires started by lightening and human activity. Immediate and aggressive initial attack action by Tok Forestry extinguished many of these fires. With the hot and dry conditions and dry lightening storms we ask people to use extreme caution and report any new smoke immediately to Tok Forestry @ 883-FIRE.

Both the Moon Lake Fire and the Tetlin Ridge fire are in full protection areas and Tok Area Forestry is implementing site protection on these fires with available resources.

Smoke from the Tok area fires is visible and may be heavy at times. Smoke is impacting visibility the Alaska Highway and the Glenn highway and motorists are asked to use caution, slow down, and drive with their headlights on. Updated information on travel conditions can be found at http://511.alaska.gov.

Forestry advises all residents in the upper Tanana to stay apprised of current fire information.
