The Port of Portland is currently building an eligibility list for Police Officer through National Testing Network (NTN). The Port of Portland is requiring a passing ORPAT. ORPAT is scheduled separately from the NTN home page.

Salary Information: $50,296.48 – $75,944.96 (Depending on Qualifications)

 Department Overview: The Port of Portland offers a very competitive benefits package including:  The Police Department emphasizes a high level of professionalism and visibility. Officers are normally assigned to foot patrol within the airport terminal or to vehicle patrol on the public roadways and non-public airfield perimeter.

In addition to the traditional aspects of law enforcement patrol, officers assist travelers, work closely with airline personnel, and enforce Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security rules and regulations. Officers are required to respond to a variety of emergency situations, some of which may be life threatening in nature. The department maintains the highest levels of officer safety training, procedures and equipment, but risk is always inherent in police work.

Officers respond to crimes in progress and other calls for service, conduct criminal investigations, and complete professional police reports. Officers police the public roadways, enforce traffic laws, issue citations and investigate traffic collisions. Officers also enforce Port ordinances governing the airport´s non-public roadways.

Officers provide for the security of the airport, which includes security patrols of the airport perimeter, enforcement of the airport´s security plan and access systems, participation in intelligence networks, and support of the FBI, TSA, and U.S. Customs security functions.

Job Requirements

  • 21 years of age
  • US Citizen
  • HS Grad / GED
  • Valid OREGON State Driver’s License
  • Ability to Speak/Read English
  • Must meet OREGON DPSST Standards vision requirements
  • 2 or 4 year College degree
  • Prior Experience preferred
  • Valid ORPAT at time of selection

Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:

  • Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers – At a minimum, candidates must be able to meet the Oregon DPSST standards for employment for a law enforcement officer.
  • Candidates must pass all medical, physical, written, oral and psychological evaluations.

 Entry Level Candidates, you must:

  • Schedule both a FrontLine National and ORPAT test for this position
  • Require to have the PHQ

 ALREADY A CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER?:  Lateral Applicants (individuals who are currently certified, or eligible to be certified, as a Police Officer in the State of Oregon without attending the Basic Police Academy AND who have a minimum of three years of experience as a Certified Police Officer) are only required to complete the Port of Portland application and pass the ORPAT.  Lateral applicants are not required to complete the FrontLine written exam or PHQ.
