Big Cypress National Preserve, FL.
Firefighters are fighting several fires in the Mud Lake Complex Fire located North and South of I-75; North of SR41 and 10 miles East of SR529, on Florida’s coastal waters.
- Ellison Fire – Firefighters are now having to protect private cabins & NPS structures within the Preserve, as fire moves towards them. They are working to confine. It is currently at 11,360 acres.
- Dot, Square Fires – Both have merged into the Square Fire. Info on @inciweb site states there is full suppression at 8,133 acres burned.
- Ellipse Fire – Fire is at a 100% containment status with 215 acres.
- Mist Fire – Fire is at a full suppression status with only 27 acres.
- Pekel Fire – Fire has been fully suppressed with 1.5 acres burned.

The Fire and Police Departments would like to remind Drivers of the following:
“Due to wildfires on both sides of I-75, motorists may encounter thick smoke from the Mud Lake Complex fires. The Square Fire, located north of I-75 made a southerly progression toward the interstate today; there is an increased probability of smoke on the roadway, which could impact visibility along the I-75 corridor. Nighttime smoke with fog is expected. Motorists may experience this reduced visibility through mid-morning.
The areas of heaviest smoke are expected to be between mile posts 60 through 73.”
The current status of the fire has reached a 13% containment status, enabling firefighters to get a somewhat handled on the fire. Total acreage burned is 19,736 acres as of Tuesday, May 19, 2015, has now exploded to 30,249 acres.
