CARSON NATIONAL FOREST, NEW MEXICO
Incident Summary – A wildfire ignited by lightning started on the El Rito Ranger District that started approximately at 1730 hours on June 3, 2017. This fire is located in Bonita Canyon and about 3 miles North of Canon Plaza, New Mexico.
There has been 5,000 acres destroyed. A 50% containment status has been reached.
Fire Fuels – The fire is burning in Ponderosa pine, grass understory, pinyon pine/juniper, and mixed conifer at higher elevations.
Fire Behavior – There is active fire behavior with short crown runs, long-range spotting and group torching.
Resources – Resources include 166 personnel along 4 crews, 4 engines and 2 helicopters. An IMT 2 is assigned to this incident.
Cost-To-Date – Fire suppression and containment costs-to-date have reached $1 Million.
