A wildfire ignited on Saturday, May 1, 2021 around 1402 hours PT in Indian Wells Canyon and Short West Canyon, west of Highways 14 and 395 in Inyo/Kern Counties, California.
The cause is unknown and under investigation.
The fire has destroyed 2,000 acres of brush and short grass. Its behavior is said to be moderately active with wind-driven runs. Fire Officials say there is still a moderate potential for fire growth.
There are 132 total personnel assigned to this incident who will continue to work on perimeter control with direct fire attack using crews and engines on-scene.

Challenges are continued strong winds from the west that are expected to be on-going around 2100 hours. Gusty winds are forecasted to be reduced for the night.
