GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK, TX — A wildfire was ignited by lightning on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 around 1500 hours in the Park, located about 34 miles southwest of White City, New Mexico.

COMMAND — IC Jason Thivener, Type 3 IC (ICT3).
SIZE UP — The fire has burned 1,959 acres of grass, needles and leaves under pine and oak trees. There is a 20% containment status that has been reached today.
RESOURCES — There are 86 firefighters and support resources assigned. Some resources will be demobed today.
FIRE OPERATIONS: Fire managers will keep their firefighters close to shelter due to expected adverse weather conditions. Firefighters will also continue to provide structure protection to the Bowl, Pratt Cabin and Hunter Line Shack and creating a defensible space around the Park.
