FLORIDA — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Essential Medical Supply Inc. of Orlando, Florida announced the recall on December 22, 2021, of four models of the company’s Endurance Hand Bed Rails, which the following:

  • Hand Bed Rail (model P1410)
  • Hand Bed Rail with pouch (model P1410-P)
  • Hand Bed Rail with floor support (model P1411)
  • Hand Bed Rail with floor support with puch (model P1411-P)

These have been recalled because an adult can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the rail and the side of the mattress. This poses a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation.

One death has been reported in California. The CPSC states the 86-year old died in December of 2012.

This recall impacts a total of 272,000 units at medical supply stores across the nation, as well as online through http://www.amazon.com (Amazon) and http://www.walmart.com (Walmart). Units were sold by the company between October 2006 through December 2021.

Essential Medical Supply Inc. states consumers stop using this product immediately.

If the item was purchased after November 1, 2015, the company will provide a refund. If they were purchased prior to this date, it is advised that you stop usage immediately, disassemble them, and dispose of the rails.
