LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — 74 LA City Firefighters battled a fire that originally started in an automotive-related business and extended into a one-story commercial structure housing a marijuana grow operation that broke out this evening on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, around 1913 hours PT.
The buildings are located in the 200 block of E 57th Street in South Park.
Additional units were dispatched as holes cut through the roof to vent the heat and smoke only intensified with heavy fire showing through the room and out of the structure. A ladder pipe operation was established. (1926 PT)
After firefighters transitioned back to defensive operations, there was a partial roof/mezzanine collapse on the interior, where fallen debris stopped crews from putting out all of the hotspots completely until LAFD USAR members helped them move around safely.
Firefighters would take about 84 minutes from the time of the alarm to the moment they were able to fully put the fire out completely.
No injuries were reported.
Units dispatched were BC1, BC11, BC13, BC18, CM22, E14, E15, E203, E21, E211, E221, E233, E266, E3, E33, E46, E64, E66, EA1, EM11, FP354, HR3, JT6, RA21, RA33, RA833, RA846, SQ21, T11, T21, T3, T33, T66, UR3, UR88.
The cause is unknown at this time and under investigation.
