Update 1 – Tuesday, March 29, 2022

The current Wildfire Activity Report for Tuesday for the State of Tennessee is as follows:

Thomas Divide Fire

The Thomas Divide Fire is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park of the National Park Service. It is located about two miles northeast of Bryson City, North Carolina.

Fire behavior is minimal with backing. About 948 acres have been consumed. It is currently listed with a 40% containment status. Homes are currently threatened.

Approximately, 53 total personnel remain on this incident along with six crews and four engines.

No structures have been listed as destroyed.

There is an unknown amount of costs to date.

Chimney Rock Fire

The Chimney Rock Fire is located in the Cherokee National Forest of the United States Forest Service (USFS), about six miles northeast of Del Rio, Tennessee. It was discovered on March 26, 2022, at 0458 hours.

Almost 200 acres (180 acres today) of hardwood litter have been destroyed but crews have reached a 0% containment status. Fire behavior remains active.

RED FLAG WARNING is in effect from 3/30/2022 at 0800 hours until 1700 hours PT.

Homes are under threat prompting road and trail closures which are now in effect.

About 59 total resources are committed along with two crews, two engines, and two copters.

The total cost-to-date for fire suppression efforts and containment activities has reached $105,000.
