UPDATE 1 – 3/31/2022 Thursday – 1815 hours PT

The BORREGA FIRE ignited on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, around 1645 hours CDT. It is located 10 miles west of Kingsville and three miles east of Premont, Texas.

The Texas A&M Forest Service received a request yesterday from the Kleberg County Fire Officials for service. Fire agencies are in Unified Command.

Air resources include large air tankers (LATs) which are being used to assist ground fire resources. Firing operations have been completed and were successful. There are 42 state and federal resources assigned along with three dozers, 16 engines, and eight aircraft, including an air attack and SEATs.

At this time, the fire is at 46,000 acres of grass and brush and there is a 20% containment status.

Fire behavior remains extreme with wind-driven runs and flanking. Some slop over several dozer lines on the southeastern side of the fire has been observed. Additional crews are working point protection on the right flank of the fire.
