Update 1 – June 16, 2022 – Thursday, 1925 hours PT

A new brush wildfire named the SIXTY-SIX FIRE ignited on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at around 1730 hours located between I-40 and Route 66 in Carnuel, Bernalillo County, New Mexico.

Fire behavior is extreme with wind-driven runs. It is burning on both sides of the I-40 and has directly impacted several residential structures.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the NM State Police, evacuations are in effect for the Carnuel Canyon area.

Resources on order and on-the-scene are as follows | Fire Assets — Forestry Division, Albuquerque Fire Rescue, USDA Forest Service. Government Agency(ies) — Bernalillo County. Law Enforcement — Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), New Mexico State Police.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.

About 30 acres of bosque-type fuels including grass and ponderosa are being consumed.

Several residential homes and other structures are under direct threat.

CLOSED roadways are the NM Hwy 333 at Carnuel and WB I40 at the Tijeras exit, mile marker 175.
