Fighting A Big Fire
While members of the Chicago Fire Department were battling an extra-alarm fire, at a restaurant in Chicago’s Lincoln Park (north side of the City), a firefighter called out a MayDay after falling through a light shaft of a four-story mixed occupancy building. It was said that this occurred after helping warn students who lived there to get out.
This is something those involved on the fire ground never want to hear but are there in a heartbeat to rescue one of their own.
Mayday. Mayday. Mayday.
Unfortunately, on November 13, 2023, one of their own called a Mayday at a working fire located in the 2430-32 blocks of Lincoln in Chicago. He was entrapped inside the building at 0444 hours this morning and was rescued at this time.
He was transported in critical condition and was transported to nearby Illinois Masonic Hospital. Just after 0600 hours this morning, Fire Officials released another update stating their CFD firefighter was still in very critical condition.
A LODD Death Announced
Just after 0700 hours, an announcement via the Chicago Fire Media social media site gave the sad news of the passing of their CFD Firefighter/EMT Andrew “Drew” Price who had joined their agency in March of 2009.
In 2015, he was assigned to Truck 44, and worked out of the station on Halstead.
He would have turned 40 years old this coming January (2024).
We send our sincere sympathies to his family. Fire Service brothers and sisters, and communities where he served.
A Hero Brought Home
FF/EMT Drew’s procession route was released by the Fire Service: West on Wellington Ave to Sheffield Ave South on Sheffield Ave to Diversey West on Diversey to Ashland Ave South on Ashland Ave to Ogden Ave to Harrison St to the Morgue (2121 W Harrison St). He was later brought to CCME.
Arrangements Are Pending
Currently, The New York City Firefighter Brotherhood Foundation states that arrangements for one of their own are still pending.
