SUMMIT TRAIL FIRE

The Summit Trail Fire started on July 12, 2021, and the incident was assumed by the California Interagency Incident Manage Team 10 with IC Darren Dalyrymple at the held.

On July 22, 2021, the fire had burned 5,942 acres and had a 2% containment status.

This wildfire started 17 miles west of Inchellium, in the jurisdiction of the Colville Confederated (Ferry County) and six miles west of Twin Lakes, Washington State.

The fire was caused by lightning and grew quickly.

Several other wildfires broke out near this one which included the Keno Fire which was located four (4) miles southwest, and the Klondike Fire four (4) miles south of this incident.

On July 27, 2021, the north and east flanks of the fire saw gusty winds and increased fire behavior with it moving further north it stuck in Johns Mountain. Level 1 evacuations were in effect for the area from Lafleur south on Hall Creek Road to Hall Creek Flat and the Reservation was shut down to industrial activities by the general public.

On the morning of August 4th, the weather began to clear with sunny skies allowing air tankers and copters to drop water over the western flank and retardant along the southeastern side of the flank.

Storms on August 3rd, four new starts occurred outside of the Summit Trail perimeter with several more across the Colville Reservation.

The largest of the fires was the Whitmore Fire located east of Goose Lake estimated on this date to be 1,000 to 2,000 acres in size. Another wildfire was the Hamilton Fire which at the time was 200 acres.
