Fire crews with the Tonto National Forest Service were on the scene of a small wildfire that broke out around 1621 hours on the afternoon of Saturday, April 26, 2025. The fire had been burning on both sides of SR 87 between mileposts 228 and 229, when resources had arrived.

The fire was quickly contained to five acres.

One Type 3 was dispatched along with the Arizona Department of Transportation (AZ DOT), a single water tender, and five engine crews.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a flat tire on a vehicle.

The AZ DOT crews were closed in both directions on the highway but have since reopened.
