June 19, 2012 – At approximately 1520 hours today, Seattle firefighters and crews were dispatched to a suicidal male that had locked himself inside a Fisherman’s Terminal commercial building on Commodore Way. It was reported by multiple sources that he had lit a rag on fire causing smoke to billow out of the structure.
Air 2, Air 9, Battalion 22, Deputy 1, Engines 18, 35, 8 & 9, Ladder 4, Safety 2, Staff 10 were dispatched at 1520 hours to the 2400 block of West Commodore Way.
More crews were dispatched immediately. Here is the progression of the incident.
1521 – Engine 10, HAZMAT 1,Ladder 1.
1522- Aid 5.
1522 – Marshal 5.
1530 – PIO.
1532 – Engines 17 & Ladder 9.
1533 – Medic 31.
1543 – Medic 44 (Medic Supervisor)
1547 – Patrol 4.
1550 – Engine 1.
1721 – Marshal 5.
Smoke and fire had been visibly seen and was quickly put out by fire crews while working around the suicidal male. It was also reported that he was possibly armed.
Great job to those including police who disfused the situation taking the male into custody.
Due to the fact that the building contained possible chemicals, we did not enter the “fire zone” keeping a safe distance on the outer side of the perimeter for a few quick shots.
