
Incident: Goat Wildfire
Released: 1000 Hours – 9/25
Tuesday, September 25, 2012 @ 8AM
Location: Three miles southwest of Pateros, WA.
Size: Fire acreage is 6,912 acres.
Cause: Human caused.
Containment: 25% at this time.
Land Ownership: National Forest and Private.
Personnel: 513 personnel are assigned to the fire today.
Equipment and Aircraft: Five dozers, 15 water tenders and 23 engines are currently assigned to the fire, as well as Two Type 1 (heavy) and 1 Type 3 (light) helicopters.
Injuries: On Monday a crew member was removed from the line for medical observation, and later returned to the crew.
Weather: Temperatures are expected to be in the 70’s, with relative humidity at 33%. Northwest winds will begin lifting the inversions and flushing smoke out of the area.
What’s New: Firefighters completed construction of all fire line on Monday. Burnout operations were completed in Division A. On the remainder of the fire, control lines were reinforced in preparation for today’s burnout operations, mop-up and continued structure protection.
Night operations continued protection of structures and critical communication sites along Antoine Creek, Spray Canyon/Quiet Valley, and Alta Lake areas.
If conditions permit, burnout operations are planned today on the northwest portion of the fire to remove fuel remaining between the established lines and the fire perimeter. Residents should be prepared to see significant smoke from this operation in the afternoon.
As always, firefighter and public safety is the top priority. Level 3 evacuation impacting 5 homes in the Quiet Valley area will change to Level 2 at 10am this morning.
Other Level 2 evacuation areas remain unchanged. The Goat Fire is now reported as a separate incident on InciWeb.

Containment: 10% at this time.
Land Ownership: USFS and Private.
Personnel: Approximately 460 personnel are assigned to the fire today.
Equipment and Aircraft: 6 dozers, 9 water tenders and 27 engines are assigned to the fire. Two Type 1 (heavy) and 1 Type 3 (light) helicopters are assigned to the fire.
Injuries: No injuries in this reporting period.
Weather: Temperatures are expected to be in the 70’s today; continued low humidity and light winds.
What’s New: Transition of the Goat Fire from Oregon Incident Management Team #1 (Williams) to Washington Incident Management Team #5 (Leitch) occurred at 6am on Sunday.
Night operations continue protection of structures and critical communication sites along Antoine Creek, Spray Canyon/Quiet Valley, and Alta Lake areas.
Day operations continue reconnaissance, construction and strengthening of control lines; burnout; structure protection/fuels reduction along Alta Lake and in the Antoine Creek and Spray Canyon/Quiet Valley vicinities; and protection of critical communication sites.
As always, firefighter and public safety is the top priority.
NOTE: Thru Sunday the Goat Fire was reported as part of the Okanogan Complex.
