News Note: A Type 3 management team is setting up operations and base camp for the “25-Mile Fire” at the Manson High School. This fire is burning in grass, sparse brush and scattered timber stands on the north shore of Lake Chelan, about 10 miles uplake of Manson.

This fire is burning in the same area that was burned during the “Deer Point Fire” in 2002. That fire burned rapidly downlake dur…ing a warm, dry wind event, pushing into the west end of the Manson community.

The “25-Mile Fire” is burning in lighter fuels then the “Deer Point Fire” and fuels are much ‘greener’ now, which is helps slow the advancement of the fire, especially into the upper elevations.

Boaters, please be aware of helicopter operations in the area of the fire and stay clear of the areas they are working.
