Weiser Complex Fire – Payette National Forest (ID)

Start Date:  8/29/13 13:00 hours

Personnel:  225

Incident Status:  2 Fires – Hells Canyon Fire (9,362 acres) and Raft Fire (7,000 acres) were caused by lightning.  Currently, burning N of McCord Creek.  It is approximately 15 miles NW of Weiser, ID and burning within the Snake River corridor.  

Hells Canyon Fire – is currently threating Bennett Creek, heading towards Iron Mountain.  Structure protection is in place for Mountain Man Lodge and Mineral Mine.

Raft Fire – Evacuations are in progress at Sturgill Peak Lookout and forest visitors have been asked to leave the area.  Fire was spotted in the area of Benton Creek Falls.

Areas closed:  Southern portion of Weiser Ranger District and Hwy. 71.   From Cambridge to Brownlee Reservoir is still open but visitors should be aware of fire and check for closures in the area.
