Weiser Complex Fire – Payette National Forest (ID)

Start Date: 8/29/13 13:00 hours
(Location: 20 Miles NW of Midvale, ID.)
Personnel: 225 (now up to 562)
Incident Status: 2 Fires – Hells Canyon Fire -9,362 acres (9,373) and Raft Fire – 7,000 acres (12,000) were caused by lightning. Currently, burning N of McCord Creek. It is approximately 15 miles NW of Weiser, ID and burning within the Snake River corridor.
Hells Canyon Fire – is currently threating Bennett Creek, heading towards Iron Mountain. Structure protection is in place for Mountain Man Lodge and Mineral Mine. (Firefighters are gaining an upper hand on file – 85% contained).
Raft Fire – Evacuations are in progress at Sturgill Peak Lookout and forest visitors have been asked to leave the area. Fire was spotted in the area of Benton Creek Falls. (Burning actively in heavy fuels, 8% contained. Has moved into the Benton Creek).
Areas closed: Southern portion of Weiser Ranger District and Hwy. 71. From Cambridge to Brownlee Reservoir is still open but visitors should be aware of fire and check for closures in the area.
Announcements:
Community meeting are schedule for Monday, September 2nd at Cambridge and Weiser. All members of the public are encuraged to attend.
Cambridge: 4pm at the Cambridge Fairgrounds, Exhibit Building.
Weiser: 6:30pm at the Weiser High School Auditorium.
