Scotch-Irish Fire Department Firefighter Marco Kauffman’s story goes like this,

“Marco was shot Monday, December 2, in the head by a burglar.

Marco and Maryann had been at his parents’ house for brunch since DKs parents are here for a bit.

Marcos went home, but just beyond their house they saw a blue car with its hood up.

Marco drove up and asked if they needed help, but the guy didn’t say anything, just looked at them strangely.

Marco took Maryann about two hundred yards up the road to Daniel’s house (they were gone), dropped her off, and went back to check it out.

After she heard a volley of gunshots, Maryann tried to call Marco and couldn’t get an answer.

She then started running toward their house and called her mom.

Her mom told her not to go to the house, so she hid behind a hay bale beside the road, since she thought she heard the robbers’ car driving back n forth.

She called DKs and they came right away.

Police showed up promptly; it seems that somehow Marco had managed to call 911.

When David and Linda got there, the house had been completely ransacked.

Marco’s car was found down in the woods at the edge of the cornfield just beyond their house.

The back car window was shot out. It looks like Marco may have seen the gun and tried to drive away but got shot in the head. His car smashed into the woods, both air bags deployed.

Aside from his gunshot wound he is fine. But the doctors are very very concerned about his condition.

Maryann has been so strong and serene through the tears…

We are praying for a miracle. Cause that’s what it will take to save him.

We are thankful that our God is the Creator, Healer and Redeemer.

Please join us in lifting Marco continually to our Father.”

The story has been heartbreaking because things are getting progressively worse for Marco, however, he is a fighter and still  needs to continue to fight.  He is also husband, soon-to-be father with a son on the way, a Volunteer Firefighter and those who know him, say he is one of the nicest people you’d ever meet.

Today, a post about Marco’s condition stated he is turning for the worse and he needs all the love, support and prayers he can get.

“In the last 24 hoursMarco’s condition has worsened drastically. A CT scan last night showed new damage to his brain, and his pressure levels were worse than ever.

This morning the doctors expressed that they have done everything they can and that it may be time to let go. Please pray for wisdom from God to know whether or not to remove him from life support. Pray for peace, and for an overwhelming assurance of God’s presence and grace at this time.

We have wept and prayed, surrendered Marco into God’s hands. We know that God is well able to heal him. But we also know that God does not always choose to heal. We have asked God to bring glory to His name in which ever way He chooses.” – His Family posted.

Marco’s Fire Department has organized an event in his honor called the Marcus “Marco” Kauffman BBQ Chicken and Blood Drive Benefit.  The event will be held on January 17th and 18th 1100 – 2000 hours at the Scotch-Irish Fire Department located at 3220 Needmore Rd, Woodleaf, NC 27054.

All meals are being cooked by Jerry’s Chicken and must be pre-ordered by January 10th, for pick-up or dining in by contacting website:  fs16.formsite.com.  The menu is made up of 1/2 chickens, baked beans, coleslaw, bread and a dessert for $8 per plate.

The Blood Drive will be hosted by the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas on both days.
