Fire Containment Status

As of 6:00 am January 21 2014 the Colby Fire is at 95% containment with a total of 1952 acres consumed by the fire. There are approximately 300 personnel still assigned to this incident.

Fire Status

The fire activity was light during night operations. The overall heat remaining on the fire is isolated to interior hot spots well inside containment lines and diminishing daily. The objective in the coming days is to keep the fire with in the existing containment lines.

* Continue to patrol monitor and reinforce containment lines

* Ensure thorough mop up is completed 100 feet inside containment lines

* Southern California Incident Management Team 3 is demobilizing and will transition the management of the Colby Fire to a joint command with the US Forest Service and Los Angeles County Fire Department at 6:00 PM today.

BAER Assigned to Incident

A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team is being assigned to the incident. After a fire the first priority is emergency stabilization and to determine the need for mitigation efforts to minimize any ongoing threats to life property and the environment.

The stabilization work begins before the fire is out and may continue for up to a year.

Rehabilitation focuses on the lands unlikely to recover naturally from wildland fire damage.

Closures

Glendora Mountain Road and Ridge Road closed until further notice.

Per CalTrans-Highway 39 is closed at San Gabriel Gateway Center due to fallen rocks until 1/22 at 7pm. SR-39 still remains OPEN to residents.

Evacuations

Evacuations were lifted for the Community of Mountain Cove at 6:00 PM. January 18, 2014.

No evacuation are currently in place.

The Incident Information Center for the Angeles National Forest is closed. Please call the Forest during regular business hours 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (626) 574-5200.
