Job Description


JOB SUMMARY

Upper Pine River Fire Protection District utilizes paramedics in a chase vehicle system designed to support two staffed ambulances with BLS or Intermediate Life Support in a rural and frontier environment. The Paramedic is an allied health professional who can conduct invasive and pharmacological interventions; possessing all the skills of prerequisite EMR, EMT, AEMT, (Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician). Paramedic care is based on advanced assessment and formulating a field impression. Licensure requires successful completion of state of Colorado Requirements and a national accredited Paramedic program at the certificate orassociate degree level resulting in certification via the National Registry as a Paramedic.

Job Requirements

  • Education : High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience : 2-years current active experience as a paramedic
  • Additional Requirement :

     

    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Valid, current, Colorado driver’s license.
    • Motor Vehicle Report acceptable to insurance standards.
    • Pass Background Check and Drug Screening.
    • Written and Verbal competency in English Language.
    • Complete IFSAC FFII certification with a year of employment.
    • 2-years current active experience as a paramedic.
    • Ability to obtain Colorado State Certification as a Paramedic.
    • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians License Required. (www.nremt.org) within one year of employment. The NREMT registrant bears the burden of demonstrating and maintaining compliance at all times according to Registry Licensure. Current Certifications are mandatory for employment.
    • NWCG Current Red Card possession within 3 months.
    • Associates or Bachelor College Degree preferred in related fields such as: Fire Science, Emergency Health Services, EMS, Physiology, Public Health, Sports Medicine, Anatomy, other related fields.
    • State of Colorado or IFSAC Firefighter I, ACLS, Hazmat Operations.
    • Prefer PHTLS, BTLS, AMLS and PALS or PEPP, ICS 100 and ICS 200.
    • NAEMSE or State Certified EMS Instructor with 2-years of employment.
    • Must pass CPAT and maintain Physician?¦s annual physical exam: Fit to perform duties, activities and requirements defined by NFPA guidelines www.NFPA.organd ACE Recommendations www.naemt.org\ems.safety.
    • Physical fitness and safety are conditions of employment. Personal responsibility for physical fitness at the Arduous Fitness Level is a requirement.
    • Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, running, hand- finger grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, smelling, and repetitive motions are required.
    • Very Heavy Work: exerting in excess of 150 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently and 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
    • Must possess the ability to work in high to loud noise, low and extreme light, dusty, dirty, wet, freezing, high heat, high vibration, confined spaces, high and unstable environments.
    • Responsible for physical fitness as defined by NFPA 1583 and passing of medical exam as defined by NFPA 1582. Remain qualified as an operational firefighter as defined by NFPA and associated UPRFPD SOP’s including passing of the functional ability test, participating in the fitness evaluations such as CPAT Fitness Evaluation, Combat Fitness Challenge and DOL Physical Exam. Physical fitness and Safety are requirements of the position on-going.
    • EMS or Wildland assignments may possibly be multiple weeks out and in distant jurisdictions or regions of wilderness, mountainous or rugged geography, often camping in tents. Fitness to perform arduous work as defined below including temperatures over 100F to below 32F and altitudes often above 5,000 feet.
    • EMS or Wildland requires Arduous Fitness Level: duties involve fieldwork requiring physical performance calling for above-average endurance and superior conditioning. These duties may include an occasional demand for extraordinarily strenuous activities in emergencies under adverse environmental conditions and over extended periods of time. Requirements include running, walking, climbing, carrying, jumping, twisting, bending, and lifting more than 50 pounds.
    • The pace of work typically is set by the emergency situation. WCT* (Work Capacity Test) at the Arduous Level is a Condition of Employment

    WORK CAPACITY TEST (WCT) for Wildland and Firefighters:
    This position participates in Wildland firefighting activities. Based on the type of work performed TAKING AND PASSING the WCT at the ARDUOUS level is a condition of employment.

    The Arduous Fitness (Pack) Test requires completing a three (3) mile hike within forty-five (45) minutes while caring a forty-five (45) pound pack. You are strongly encouraged to consult with your physician and begin training immediately if applying for this position.
