LOCATION

10 miles of Silver City, NM | Fire Started 5/11/14 | Human Caused | 25% contained | Timber, grasses & rugged terrain | 688 personnel on scene 

PUBLIC MEETING

Thursday, 5/15/14 | Roundup Lodge | 91 Acklin Hill Rd, San Lorenzo | 1800 Hours | After meeting, presenters will show interested individuals how to track fire progression by using Google Earth

FIRE STATUS

Strategy is to go with full fire suppression. Crews mopping up west flank of fire increasing containment to 25%.  Line construction along North and East sides in preparation for possible burnout ops as needed.  | On south & southeast flanks, firefighters are building containment lines near fire’s edge. | Structure protection personnel are monitoring fire line improvements near private structures on south flank | Aircraft resources are assisting firefighters with fire retardant and water during fire suppression activities.

WEATHER

Temps are expected to get hotter and dryer with lower humidity as the days progress into next week beginning tomorrow.  It looking like the weather is setting up for possible increasing fire conditions.

The following are NOT afffected by the Fire | Silver City, Pinos Altos, Gila Cliff Dwellings | Local Special Events | SR Highway 15 has been reopened

A Closure Order went into effect on May 13, 2014 | 1800 MDT and will be in force until 12/31/2014 or until rescinded
