SAFER Grant Program 

  • Purpose:  Hiring additional staffing, volunteer recruitment & retention.
  • Application Period:  May 2015.

Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program [AFG]

  • Purpose:  Federal money granted to Fire Departments and non-affiliated EMS organizations giving them awards to provide the most basic tools to respond to every type of Hazard.
  • Application Period: March-April 2015.

  • Distribution:  One year Award.
  • Program Administrator: U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security [DHS] / FEMA

Volunteer Fire Assistance Program

  • Purpose:  Provide Federal financial, technical and other assistance to State Foresters to train & equip Rural Fire Departments with fire prevention and suppression activities.
  • Restrictions:  Departments must serve Communities with 10,000 or fewer residents.  Funding must be matched 50/50% by non-federal dollars or an in-kind donation.

Department of Interior Rural Fire Assistance Program

  • Purpose:  enhancing Fire protection capabilities of Rural Fire Departments in wildland urban settings.
  • Priorities:  Training, Equipment Purchase, Prevention Activities on a 90/10 cost-share basis.
  • Restrictions:  Must serve in communities with 10,000 or fewer residents and must have a statewide agreement with Forester that has cooperative agreement with Rural or Volunteer FD or within DOI.
  • Distribution:  Federal dollars are split between four [4] DOI agencies: Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and National Park Service.

Rural Safety Initiative

  • Purpose:  Concentrate on Highway injuries and fatalities rural roads.
  • Funding Priorities:  Safe drivers, better roads, smarter roads, better trained emergency responders and outreach and partnerships.

HAZMAT Emergency Preparedness Grant Program [HMEP]

  • Purpose:  Providing financial resources to help rural communities to respond to HAZMAT incidents, including providing training.

The Fire Prevention and Safety Grant [FP&S]

  • Purpose:  To reduce injury and prevent death in high-risk populations.
  • Funding Priorities:  Programs that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards; Firefighter Safety, Research and Development.
  • Application Period:  March 16,2015 0800 to April 17,2015 1700 EST.

Volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Grant Program

  • Purpose:  Community Partner giving back to their local fire departments
  • Grant Award:  $1,000 that will help with equipment purchases, training materials.
  • Restrictions: Must be within their Service areas.

 Heritage Program

  • Purpose:  Support for firefighters by funding equipment, training and community education programs saving lives.
