South of Bridgeport, CA | Another fire is raging in California near Highway 395 where the Round Fire is burning. Like the Round Fire, it has caused more evacuations. The Van Dyke Fire, initially called the Point Ranch fire, is located South of Bridgeport, East of Highway 395 and North of Point Ranch.
The U.S. Forest – Inyo National Forest is now reporting the Van Dyke fire at 300 acres with 0% containment. The initial attack was being done by the Humboldt-Tioyabe National Forest but has since moved on to Bureau of Land Management’s response area.
Homes are currently being threatened. No structures or injuries are being reported. Residents of the Evans Track have been evacuated from the area. A shelter has opened at the Bridgeport Memorial Hall located at 73 N School Street in Bridgeport, California.
A request for the number of personnel on the fireground and apparatus on scene was sent to their Facebook page since they stated cell phone coverage is down and power is out in the area. We are waiting to hear back.
Multiple agencies currently on scene are Lee Vining, Mammoth Lakes, and June Lake Fire Departments, as well as Bureau of Land Management, Bishop Field Office and U.S. Forest Service (Humboldt-Tioyabe and Inyo National Forests).
Highway 395 is closed at Bridgeport and Lee Vining.
The fire has increased in size to 300 acres. It is burning in grass and sage. Sustained winds are causing problems for firefighters.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
