New Mexico Wildfire: Arena Canyon Fire | 1

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Nm. – The Arena Canyon Fire was discovered on Friday, May 25, 2018 that was a result of being lightning caused. The fire is located about five miles south of the New Mexico/Colorado border near Highway 511 at mile marker 25.

Current Status

The wildfire is burning on private and Bureau of Land Management lands located also west of Navajo Lake near Highway 511.  Fire has burned approximately 180 or more acres of Pinion and Juniper.  There is a 0% containment status.  Fire behavior is active and has a rapid rate of spread.

Firefighters from State Forestry, San Juan County and federal fire agencies are actively fighting the fire from the ground and air.

Threats

15 homes are under direct threat.  Evacuation orders are in effect.
