A wildfire ignited in French Canyon, about 95 miles southeast of Seattle and located in Tieton (Yakima County), Washington State.
Fire personnel and assets were dispatched @ 1246 hours PDT to a 2-acre fire. Resources included Anthanum 20, other brush trucks and engines.
The Fire Command was named “French Command”. Yakima County Fire and WA DNR would become “Unified Command”.
The size up of the fire: 6.2 acres (correction) , on private land, in District 1’s area with fire fuels of grass and brush with the fire backing. There was a low chance of the fire progressing.
Evacuations were beginning to occur but due to the scratchiness of the fire scanners, the locations are unknown at this time. We are working to gather more intel to provide another update.
Firefighters were working on the West Flank which appeared to be stopped. They were going into direct fire attack on the East Flank.
No additional resources were needed at the time the size up was given.
