A wildfire named the GILA RIVER FIRE is burning east of Florence along the Gila River. It started on the Bureau of Reclamation.
The fire started on Saturday, May 8th around 1415 hours PT (inciweb showing May 15th is incorrect).
The cause of the wildfire is unknown and under investigation.
The lead agency is BLM AZ Fire.
There are 20 total personnel on the fire ground and a Type 3 IMT has been placed on order.
At this time of this post, the fire has destroyed 150 acres of salt cedar.

05/03/2021: Brush fire. #RiverFire. Reported 05/02/2021. Near County 5 East and Levee Road, along the Gila River. Northeast of Yuma. Estimated at 6 acres. Light activity. No structures threatened.
04/22/2021: Brush fire. Estrella Parkway and Gila River. 29 fire units responded along with State land resources.
04/08/2021: Fire season kicked off with 2 riverbed fires #Margo Fire in San Pedro River at Dudleyville and #SaltFire near Bylas in the Gila River. Both show up on the radar of NWS Tucson.
06/27/2020: Brush fire. Gila River bottom in Avondale. 980 acres. 32 homes evacuated. No injuries. No structures damaged or lost. Evacuations were part of this incident.
06/06/2020: Riverbed fire. Gila River. 200 firefighters.
05/02/2020: Possible fire activity detected on NWS Tucson radar located northwest of Safford and just north of Highway 70, near the Gila River.
09/02/2019: Wildfire. 5 miles west of Kerany/winkleman. 5 acres.
07/04/2019: Brush fire. El Mirage Road and Indian Springs Road. Gila River Shore in river bottom. Leady Agency: Goodyear FD.
03/09/2018: Wildfire. #ThomasFire located outside of Sanford. High winds in front of a storm front.
06/23/2017: Fire at the Gila River in the PFDRDC area.
04/04/2017: Brush fire. Chandler and Gila River crews fight fire on the Gila River Reservation.
03/04/2017: Brush fire on the Gila River Indian reservation.
05/22/2016: Brush fire. Gila River bottom. Southwest Valley south of Baseline/Dobbins, near Estrella Mountains. May be near the burn scar of the Gila River Fire of 2008. Incident Cooperators: Buckeye Valley Fire District and AZ State Forestry.
05/17/2016: Brush fire. Incident Cooperators: Buckeye Valley Fire District and Goodyear Fire.
05/16/2016: Brush fire. I-10 westbound. Traffic delayed at milepost 173.
03/10/2016: Brush fire. At base of the Estrella Mountains. No threats to structures.
03/03/2016: Brush fire. (Lone Butte Fire) South of Loop 202 and Kyrene Road in Chandler. 100 acres.
06/26/2008; Wildfire. Huge plume of smoke seen by area residents.
