SIT REP 1 — JUNE 5, 2021 — 2300 PT/MT

INCIDENT SUMMARY

The MESCAL FIRE is burning about 12 miles southeast of Global and approximately seven miles northeast o Dripping Springs, Arizona. Fire started on June 1, 2021, from an unknown cause.

SIZE UP

Fire behavior is extreme with wind-driven runs, running and flanking.

7,903 acres of desert brush, oak and grass have been destroyed. There is a 5% contained.

INCIDENT COOPERATORS

USFS, Mescal Fire Department, AZ DOT, AZ DEQ, San Carlos Apache Tribe Emergency Response Commission, Gila County Emergency Management, BLM – AZ Fire and Red Cross AZ.

FIRE STAFFING

402 total personnel. Air tankers and helicopters. Incident Commander (IC) is Mark Bernal.

OPERATIONS

Firefighters working to protect powerlines servicing those in San Carlos and Peridot. Structure protection groups are in San Carlos, Peridot, El Capitan, Drippings Springs, Soda Canyon, Skill Center and Beverly Hills, Mescal and T11 ranches, powerlines, as well as historic and cultural sites within the fire area.

EVACUATIONS ARE IN EFFECT

Coyote Flats Peridot Heights, San Carlos High School, all residents along Route 3.
