PALO PINTO COUNTY, TEXAS — A wildfire named the Dempsey Fire is burning between Mineral Wells and Possum Kingdom Lake is burning out of control, however, there is a 12% containment status so fire personnel is starting to make some progress.
Fire officials say this fire has burned an estimated 8,000 acres already and remains the same with fire behavior being very active with making runs across the landscape. Critical infastructure is of a big concern to fire managers, as the fire jumped the Brazos River last night. It is pushing northwest jumping FM Road 4 and Fortune Bend Road.
The wildfire ignited from an unknown cause on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at around 1400 hours CDT.
Command of this incident is under James Thornock, USFS.
Planned actions by fire personnel will be Dozers continuing to build containment lines while engines will patrol containment lines to prevent spot fires over the fire line and perform structure protection. Aircraft will continue to support ground resources with retardant drops and air attack.
