April is the most active month during New Jersey’s wildfire season but June seems to be hot on its trail as well.
The Flatiron Fire appears to have some significant events that are being duly noted in this post. Anytime, the wildfire grows in size over 100 acres, it is considered a major wildfire. This wildfire would definitely qualify under the State’s criteria.
The fire was located in the area of Elderberry Drive x Jackson Road in Medford (Burlington County), New Jersey, where it blew up to 210 acres. Though crews have reached a 100% containment status, the fire appears to be active prompting Forest Service firefighters to remain on the scene and continue to monitor control lines and protect the public from any potential hazards throughout the night.
Earlier Saturday, there were 40 residential structures that were being threatened by the fire. One outbuilding was destroyed.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
