Update 6/7/2023 1940 PT | The fire was deemed to be human-caused per the WA DNR fire agency. The fire had burned a total of one acre and was said to be smoldering. Houses, Public Safety, and timber were said to be threatened but there was a low rate of spread expected.
A small brush fire the size of 40′ x 40′ ignited from an unknown source just before 1800 hours PT, prompting local Skagit County Fire District resources to respond.
The fire took place at the Eaglemont Golf Course located in the 4800 block of Eaglemount in Big Lake (Skagit County), near Mount Vernon, Washington State.
At 1801 hours, WA DNR was dispatched to a smoke call but would later be requested when the small fire was discovered.
Units responded: Brush trucks 113, 1, E125, and WA DNR Brush truck, with an overhead team on order.
Weather Conditions: 82*F temps with winds out of the west at five miles per hour and relative humidity at 34%.
At 1827 hours, the grass fire was reported out but there were still signs of smoldering and stump that needed to be dug out. After the WA DNR brush truck arrived on the scene, the local Fire District turned over the scene to them at 1839 hours PT.
WA DNR took command of the incident with the IC as Zavala and his trainee Carter at 1905 hours PT. The short report states there is one spot with heat that has burned about one-quarter of an acre in the grass, timber, and timber understory.
