SIT REP 1: Thursday, July 6, 2023, 2025 PT
Incident Summary
A newly reported wildfire named the DEVILS THUMB FIRE was reported on the afternoon of July 4, 2023, in the Indian Peaks Wilderness in Grand County, Colorado. At the beginning of the incident, it was reportedly a 20-acre in size fire. Fire suppression aircraft from the U.S. Forest Service and Grant County immediately were dispatched and quickly arrived on the scene. No evacuations were issued at that time.

Fire Operations Respond to Increased Fire Behavior
Yesterday, the fire behavior increased as well as growing to 95 acres, and crews successfully reached 10% containment.

Containment Increases, Burned Acreage Remains the Same
An update on Thursday, July 6, 2023, Emergency Management Officials released an update, that the fire was still burning but crews have been able to increase to a 25% containment status. The devastation from the wildfire can be seen easily in photos shared online.
Cause
The cause of the wildfire is suspected as a lightning spark that ignited this devastating fire.

Those who were part of this incident are the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Emergency Management, Forest Service (ARP), and Grand County Government.
